Welcome to the official website of Féis Fhiolmaichean na Reul-iùil.
On October 3rd-5th, 2008, the tiny community called The North Shore (Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada) made history by presenting the world's first all-Gaelic international film festival. The festival included professional Gaelic filmmakers from Canada and Scotland, workshops, panel discussions, films and ceilidhs. In January 2009, Craic and MG ALBA, hosted a similar event in Glasgow, Scotland. Looks like we might have started something!
Ready for year two? Well, mark October 2nd-4th, 2009, on your calendar because the North Shore Gaelic Heritage Society will host the second year of the world's original all Gaelic film festival! The festival organizers are pleased to offer two new venues at Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre and The Gaelic College of Arts and Crafts. The event is a celebration of Gaelic storytelling from live performances to short and long-form films from Canada and Scotland. We are also pleased to welcome Paul MacNeil and Tracey Dares to our musical line-up. Paul and Tracey are crowd favorites with a long connection to the Gaelic community. Paul and Tracey will join Darrell Keigan on stage Friday night to offer an amazing slate of talent. On Saturday, Buddy MacDonald and Rachel Davis will keep the festivities light and lively!
During the festival, we will present live storyteller events, film screenings, and several high-energy ceilidhs. Attendees last year included Simon Miller and Morag Stewart, the creative team for the feature-length Gaelic film Seachd: The Inaccessible Pinnacle, film professionals, aspiring actors and filmmakers, Gaelic learners, native Gaelic speakers, and people from communities across Nova Scotia and beyond.
You don't speak or understand Gaelic? Don't worry, all events have English translation or sub-titles, and all workshops are presented in English. The celebration ceilidhs work for any language because fun is pretty universal.
You want to learn to speak Gaelic and make Gaelic films? We can help will that. Come visit and discover the Gael in you!
Thank you for supporting Gaelic culture, heritage and independent filmmaking. |
