The lower hall at the Gaelic Singers Hall will be available for quiet times, networking, and small get-togethers. You will find snack and food service in the lower hall each day as well.

Workshops

Space is very limited for workshops, so that each participant will get lots of attention. Please sign up early! Just call us or send us an e-mail and leave your name, phone and/or e-mail address.

Céilidhs

The traditional céilidh isn't a show, it's a sharing. People gather and exchange tales, new tunes, a dance or two. That's what we're doing at the féis. We want you to bring your music, dance, or story, and share it with us.

Our Friday night céilidh will focus on the "taigh-ceilidh (sounds like ty-kaylee).  Darrell Keigan, a crowd favorite around the island, will join us to offer a song or two to keep things rolling. In years' past, the paid performers often spent most of their night in the audience because the line-up of excellent musicians willing to share a tune was incredible. We hope to have the same turnout this year. It is Cape Breton, after all!

The Saturday night céilidh will feature another talented Cape Breton musical duo Larry MacAskill and Michael Cavenaugh, who will treat us to the famous sounds of Cape Breton music. Often Singer/Song writer Larry MacAskill, a fisherman from Englishtown, trades his lobster traps for musical instruments. By day he fishes the waters off Cape Breton; at night he sings about them. Larry's songs follow the story telling tradition of his Highland Ancestors. His original lyrics are full of colour and description. He covers a broad subject matter from the antics of a seagull to the exploits of one of Cape Bretons most famous prodigies Giant Angus MacAskill, a relative of Larry. Larry also has an extensive repitoire of traditional and contemporary music which he performs every weekend in venues around the Island. Once again, we invite you to join our musicians and storytellers and dancers to round out the evening with your contribution.
